The event would not have been possible without the generous support of our sponsors.
More than 730 people pounded the pavement for Latrobe Regional Hospital’s second Run for Your Life, fun run and walk, held on Sunday 18 March.
The event raised approximately $30,000 for the hospital’s Allied Health Appeal, with the money going towards specialised equipment for use by the Allied Health department.
LRH board chair Kellie O’Callaghan said this year’s fun run, only the second organised by the hospital, was an outstanding success.
“We had an additional 130 people take part and doubled the amount raised compared to our first year,” Ms O’Callaghan said.
“The weather was kind, those taking part were in good spirits and it was a great start to the day for serious athletes and the not-so-serious.”
Those taking part competed in either the 10km run, 5km run or 5km walk on a circuit taking in Kay Street, Traralgon.
The winner of the men’s 10km run was Ryan Wissmer in a time of 32 minutes and 37 seconds. The fastest woman in this section was Kylie Murray in a time of 38 minutes and 36 seconds.
In the 5km event Benjamin Bailey was the first male across the line in a time of 18 minutes 55 seconds while Tracy Morrison was the first female to cross the line in a time of 20 minutes and 14 seconds.
Ms O’Callaghan said the event was only possible due to the generosity of sponsors and more than 80 volunteers, many of whom turned up to help out at 6am on Sunday.
“They gave up their Sunday morning sleep-in to distribute signage for the road closures, staff drink stations and take registrations,” she said.
“We could not have run the event without them, and we also greatly appreciate the contribution of sponsors, including Workways, our Gold Sponsor.”
